Born in Great Crosby, near Liverpool, Nicola Wood would pursue a successful career as a preeminent automotive artist.
As a youngster, Wood spent Saturday mornings going to the cinema at the Odeon theater in her hometown and become a fan of such American icons as James Dean, Elvis Presley, Marlon Brando and Marilyn Monroe.
Wood thinks the automobite is the best representative of the United States, especially the tailfinned monsters of the Sixties that she loves. Yet she is anything but a "car painter". Cars are a critical element in her paintings, but they are no means the only element.
Nicola Wood had a diploma from the Royal College of Art in London with first-class honors and received a Fulbright scholarship at Parsons School of Design in New York. She did a book cover for Tennessee Williams' Night of the Iguana, and produced several illustrations commissioned by CBS to promote a documentary series.
After four years in New York, Wood returned to London. In 1976, she went to San Francisco, then to Taiwan, eventually she settled in Los Angeles, where she painted her first car in 1981.
